What do you recommend as an alternative for Windows Media Player? Know that I rarely use it. |

I use it so rarely that I actually had to check. For MP3s my distro has xmms, and for video it has xine. Normally when browsing I use RealPlayer. |

I suggest iTunes, Winamp and VLC Media Player, the last of which is open source.
I myself use iTunes to maintain my song library and use iTunes and occasionally Winamp to play my songs on the computer. |
