Have you ever considered SSuite Office as a free alternative to MS Office?

Their software also doesn't need to run on Java or .NET, like MS Office and so many open source office suites, so it makes their software very small, efficient, and easy to use. Very Happy

OK, I'm intrigued. Who are these guys (SSuite) and how long have they been around?

I have been using their software for a few years now. It seems that with every update it just keeps getting better. Cool

I think they started out in 2005, at least that is what it states here:

Hope this helps. Smile

It looks like they only support RTF and XLS:

If you need to handle MS file formats, you might be better off with LibreOffice (formerly known as OpenOffice). It can read and write .DOC and .XLS files, and can read -- but not write -- .DOCX and .XLSX files. http://www.libreoffice.org/

I think the reason they use RTF is because they don't believe in vendor lockin, at least that is what I get from their website.

When using RTF, everybody may be able to open and read your documents, no matter what software or operating system they use, now try that with doc, docx, or even odt/odf.

Not much fun using such limited document formats. Wink

LibreOffice still needs Java to run on, that makes a 650MB install on your hard drive. Sad
